About Ray Schumack
Ray Schumack received his BS in English from
Fordham University. He
pursued additional studies at the Wharton School
of Business and the American
Management Association. He has
served as an adjunct professor at Long Island University,
establishing a course in, and teaching, financial public relations. He also has been a guest lecturer on business news
reporting at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
He joined Keene
Corporation, an electronic products company with $200,000,000 in sales, as
Public Relations Manager. Subsequently, he was elevated to Director of
Communications at its new parent company, Bairnco Corporation, where he became
part of the management team that built Bairnco into a billion dollar Fortune
500 company. In his management positions with Keene and Bairnco for about 15 years, he had total responsibility for:
●Corporate, Employee
and Financial Communications,
including all news releases and feature articles for the Wall Street Journal,
The New York Times, Associated Press, Fortune Magazine and others; employee
safety and other employee information materials; annual reports; annual
meeting presentations; security analyst meetings, investor relations road
trips and all corporate
advertising campaigns for such publications as Forbes Magazine.
●Product Advertising,
Sales Promotion and Publicity for
17 company divisions around the world. Also included were planning and
execution of special public relations events such as press conferences, plant
tours and Student Design Competitions.
Before joining Keene and
Bairnco
Ray Schumack gained experience in trade association management, public
relations and journalism as follows:
●Executive Director of
a National Trade Association, the
Better Heating-Cooling Council, which he helped form as an industry promotion
arm for consumer education. Gained the support of a diverse membership base
with 100 manufactures, two national distributor organizations, two national
contractor organizations and the international union.
●Account Executive at
Cunningham & Walsh, a major Madison
Avenue advertising and public relations agency, serving international clients
such as Johns-Manville and Sharp Electronics.
●Associate Editor
of a National Trade Magazine, writing feature articles and editing
submitted
editorial materials, gaining knowledge of magazine production and publishing.
●Editorial Assistant at
The New York Times, working with
editorial page editors and sports department copy editors, gaining knowledge
of newspaper production and publishing.
